Attending Config in person

Was it worth it?

Hey reader,

First of all, I want to express my gratitude for the incredible support I received when I shared about the loss of my precious Figma file. I am overjoyed to share that the remarkable team at Figma came to my rescue and successfully helped me recover the file, which is now safely restored on my Figma page.

While I may be a little late to the party, I am thrilled to share my experience of attending Config in person. The event was truly inspiring, and I believe there are a few talks that you absolutely must watch if you haven't already.

Should you attend in person next year?

You don't have to, especially if, like me, you live far away. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to be physically present to get all the juicy details about new features and ways of working. In fact, I found that watching the replays on YouTube was a more effective way for me to learn and absorb the content. With all the hype and distractions during the event, it was hard to stay focused on the talks!

But let's not discount the value of in-person events altogether! On the opposite side, I've learned so much from networking with other designers. I had the chance to connect with amazing folks working at dream companies, and they were more than excited to share their stories and future plans with me. What a boost of energy!

Hello new features

This year has been an exciting one for Figma, with the introduction of new features like dev mode, variables, advanced prototyping, and improved auto-layout. These updates have sparked numerous conversations within the design community, as Figma aims to bridge the gap between design and development.

The boundary between design and actual development is becoming increasingly blurred. Now, designers can create designs that closely resemble the final product, making handovers to engineers much smoother. The designs speak for themselves, reducing the need for back and forth conversations with your engineers.

You may worry that Figma is becoming too code-driven, like to Webflow. But no panic! I believe that these new features can actually enhance your design process by saving time and allowing you to focus on the most exciting aspects of your designs.

I almost forgot to mention the feature that generated the most excitement during the talk (I know, kinda funny!). Figma’s font picker are here!

Some inspiring talks

I highly recommend watching all the talks from the event, but if I had to pick three absolute must-watch sessions, they would be:
